Led by Dr Ahmad Nounu and Laura Horton, the programme brings together the clinical and communication skills that underpin successful private dentistry – helping you approach cases with greater clarity, communicate treatment options confidently and create a better patient journey.
Through real clinical cases, interactive discussion and practical examples, you’ll develop approaches that you can take back and apply immediately in everyday practice.
Moving forward in private dentistry requires more than learning individual clinical techniques.
You need to be able to assess the patient in front of you, identify appropriate treatment options, formulate a considered treatment plan and communicate it in a way the patient understands.
And that’s where many dentists find themselves lacking confidence.
Level-Up has been designed to bring those elements together.
Rather than focusing on a single procedure, you’ll explore the whole decision-making process behind successful private dentistry — from the first conversation with your patient through assessment, treatment planning, case presentation and delivery.
Throughout the two days you’ll benefit from:
You may already have strong clinical skills but still find yourself questioning what to do when a patient presents with multiple possibilities.
Learn how to assess the bigger clinical picture and develop a more structured approach to deciding between different treatment options.
Develop a framework for breaking cases down into manageable stages so that treatment planning becomes clearer and more systematic.
Learn how to communicate options, benefits, limitations and expectations more effectively so patients can make properly informed decisions.
Understand some of the key differences in approach, communication and patient experience that support successful private practice.
Level-Up connects the different parts of dentistry – assessment, clinical reasoning, treatment planning, communication and the patient journey – rather than teaching each one in isolation.
Level-Up focuses on improving the way you think, plan, decide and communicate.
Develop a more systematic approach to assessing your patients and identifying the clinical and patient factors that influence treatment.
Learn how to move logically from diagnosis to appropriate treatment options and formulate considered, patient-centred plans.
Explore how experienced clinicians evaluate different restorative and aesthetic options — including why one approach may be more appropriate than another.
Learn how to break apparently complicated cases into smaller, more manageable decisions.
Develop greater confidence discussing findings, treatment options, expectations and outcomes with your patients.
Understand how to present treatment clearly and effectively without overwhelming patients with information.
Explore how the clinical and non-clinical parts of the patient experience work together — from the initial conversation through consultation, treatment and beyond.
Level-Up isn’t designed to be two days of passive lectures.
Real clinical cases form a central part of the programme.
You’ll work through cases alongside Ahmad and Laura, discussing what you see, considering the available options and exploring the clinical and communication decisions involved at each stage.
You’ll see:
And importantly, you’ll discover that there isn’t always one single “correct” answer.
Developing the ability to evaluate those options is an important part of becoming a more confident private dentist.
By the end of Level-Up for Private Practice, you’ll have greater confidence in:
The aim isn’t to teach you a script or tell you there is only one way to practise dentistry.
It’s to give you a stronger framework for making your own decisions with confidence.
Level-Up for Private Practice is ideal for:
Whether you’re beginning your transition into private dentistry or already working in private practice, Level-Up is designed to help strengthen the skills that underpin successful everyday dentistry.

Founder & Clinical Director, Private Dental Mentor
Dr Ahmad Nounu is the Founder and Clinical Director of Private Dental Mentor and Principal Dentist and Clinical Director of Black Swan Dental Spa.
Since graduating from Bristol Dental Hospital in 2008, Ahmad has developed extensive experience across private general, cosmetic and restorative dentistry.
His broad clinical experience gives him a practical perspective on the challenges GDPs encounter when assessing patients, treatment planning and deciding between different approaches.
During Level-Up, Ahmad focuses on the clinical thinking behind private dentistry — helping delegates understand not simply what to do, but the reasoning behind those decisions.
Founder, Horton Consulting
Dental Communication & Patient Journey Expert
Laura Horton brings extensive experience in practice management, treatment coordination, patient communication and the private patient journey.
After many years working within dental practice, Laura founded Horton Consulting in 2008 and has since worked with dental practices and teams across the UK and Europe.
During Level-Up, Laura focuses on the other critical side of successful private dentistry: how we communicate with patients.
Her teaching explores the consultation process, patient communication, treatment presentation and how the wider patient journey can support both the clinician and the patient.
One of the things that makes Level-Up different is the combination of clinical and communication teaching.
A technically excellent treatment plan is only valuable if it is appropriate for the patient — and if the patient understands it.
Throughout the programme, Ahmad and Laura explore cases from their different perspectives:
The clinician:
What are our findings? What are the options? What would we recommend? What are the risks and compromises?
The patient journey:
How do we uncover what matters to the patient? How do we communicate those findings? How should we present the options? How do we manage expectations?
Bringing these perspectives together gives you a much more complete view of private dentistry.
Level-Up is intentionally limited to approximately 15 – 20 dentists.
This isn’t a conference-style environment where you’re simply watching from the back of a lecture theatre.
The smaller group allows you to ask questions, contribute to case discussions and explore how other clinicians might approach the same situation.
That interaction is an important part of the learning experience.
Moving into private dentistry isn’t simply about providing more complex treatments.
Patients expect excellent clinical care, but they also expect to understand their options, feel listened to and have confidence in the recommendations being made.
Successful private dentistry therefore requires a combination of:
Clinical judgement.
Treatment planning.
Communication.
Confidence.
Patient experience.
Level-Up brings these elements together to help you develop a more complete approach to private practice.
If you want to make clearer clinical decisions, treatment plan with greater confidence and communicate more effectively with your patients, Level-Up for Private Practice has been designed for you.
Places are intentionally limited to preserve the interactive, small-group format.

Have a question about the Level-Up for Private Dental Practice Course? Explore our frequently asked questions to learn more about the training, who it’s suitable for and what you can expect on the day.
Is Level-Up only for dentists moving from NHS to private practice?
No. Level-Up is suitable both for dentists considering a move towards private dentistry and GDPs already working in private practice who want to improve their confidence, treatment planning and patient communication.
Is Level-Up a hands-on clinical course?
Level-Up is an interactive, case-based programme rather than a traditional practical course. You’ll actively work through clinical cases, treatment-planning decisions and patient scenarios with the educators.
Is there clinical dentistry involved?
Yes. Clinical cases and aesthetic and restorative treatment planning form an important part of the programme. However, Level-Up focuses particularly on the reasoning and decision-making behind treatment, rather than teaching one isolated procedure.
Will we work through real patient cases?
Yes. Real cases are central to the programme. You’ll explore assessment, treatment options, clinical considerations, communication, decision-making and outcomes.
Is the course suitable for GDPs?
Yes. Level-Up has been designed around the situations and decisions GDPs encounter in everyday private practice.
Will Level-Up help with patient communication and case acceptance?
Patient communication and treatment presentation form an important part of the programme. The emphasis is on helping patients understand their condition and treatment options so they can make appropriately informed decisions – rather than using sales techniques.
What should I expect to take back to practice?
You’ll leave with practical frameworks for assessing patients, considering treatment options, structuring treatment plans and communicating those plans more confidently.
Whether you’re transitioning from NHS practice or looking to accelerate your growth, we’ll help you find the right pathway.
